WHAT:

We want to renovate the interior of the chapel for the first time in half a century. This will include necessary repairs and liturgical improvements. The Diocesan Finance Council approved the plan on May 21, 2019.

THE FINAL TOTAL = $277,824.05

The contractor for the project will be Schenkel Construction.

WHY:

St. Paul Chapel began as a school house purchased at an auction for $169. That was in 1941. During the Second Vatical Council, more land was purchased and the schoolhouse was replaced by the present chapel. Although rooms were added on in 1981 and 1991, the interior of the chapel has been basically the same since the 1960's.

In 2013, the Maintenance Committee became convinced that significant repairs were needed. This was also an opportunity to make some changes to accommodate the growing community. So many people are coming the Mass!

HOW:

The Pastoral Council and the Maintenance Committee held a series of open meetings and brainstorming sessions. The results:
  • There was a strong consensus that the floor and the walls need attention.
  • People were in favor of renovating or replacing the pews.
  • We agree on the need for expanding the sanctuary.
  • In all of this, the basic rustic architecture will be preserved. The accent will still be on the alpine beam construction and the beauty of the wood.
The Diocese then approved the appointment of a Building Committee and a Fundraising Committee.

WHEN:

We began a capital campaign fund drive for this renovation project on the weekend of June 22 & 23, 2019. Our goal is to raise the entire amount ($250,000) in pledges, with half the amount of cash in hand. Once the funds are raised in full, we move forward with the renovation. Our goal is to complete the project within calendar year 2020. This is a one-year pledge drive.
